Recently, we sat down with founders of Love Beauty Foods, gabby and Will, to talk about all things beauty and sustainability. read on below for a slew of wisdom and a tale or two.
What inspired you to start Love Beauty Foods?
Love Beauty Foods was created by us in the home beach town where we grew up - Newcastle, Australia. In our early adulthood, experienced separately, we both lived in big cities. With high-pressure jobs and chaotic social obligations, we each felt overwhelmed and exhausted by the city hustle. Burnt-out, our lives paralleled as we each sought more balance and found our way back to our shared coastal hometown, Newcastle. This is when we met and connected over a shared deep love for the raw natural world. With more time off-grid and practices that helped to ground us, we slowly began transforming our lives and started mixing natural beauty concoctions in our tiny flat by the beach. So, you could say Love Beauty Foods was born out of a purpose and desire to help communities live more consciously and meaningfully, like we began doing, by offering safe, natural, and organic essentials that have minimal impact on the planet.
Tell us about how you create your products?
Our products are made with the purest, nutrient-dense ingredients carefully sourced from local and organic growers and lovingly packaged in recycled materials. Every product is packaged in glass or aluminium and is zero waste, with an emphasis on upcycling.
We manufacture everything from our warehouse in the beachside town of Redhead (20 mins from Newcastle) Australia. We are proud to have an intimate connection with the entire process of bringing our products to life, from the growers who we source ingredients from, all the way to how we formulate and package our products to retain nutrients and optimise efficacy. We feel really connected to our products and can put all our efforts into ensuring they are lovingly made to the highest quality.
Tell us about the values behind Love Beauty Foods and why these are important to you?
As part of our brand’s social responsibility and values, we are so proud to be a part of the 1% for the Planet initiative. This is so important to us to give back, as we know everything, we make has an impact on the planet and we want to protect and reinforce it to be enjoyed by many future generations. So as part of the initiative, 1% of all our sales go to the preservation and restoration of the natural environment as well as providing support for projects working with Indigenous ranger groups. We have elected to support three conservation efforts through our 1% For the Planet alliance: Australian Marine Conservation Society, Karrkad Kanjdji Trust & Greenfleet.
How do you wind down?
Both of us enjoy spending our free time outdoors in nature. We love to go walking the coastal trails around where we live. We also enjoy the odd camping trip throughout the year, where we can slow down, enjoy time as a family and really re-connect to nature. We love Treachery at Seal Rocks as it's only an hour and half north from where we live and work so we can leave on a Friday afternoon and be there by early evening. It's a nice remote spot with lots of native bushlands, animals and incredible beaches.
What would an ‘average day in the life of’ look like for you?
An average day in the office and warehouse usually consists of responding to customer enquiries, packing customer and wholesale orders down in the warehouse, as well as researching new sustainable business initiatives, as we are both always looking for ways to better our practices. Will often can be found blending and formulating existing and new products in the warehouse, while Gabby and the rest of the team tackle the ongoing job of curating content for social media and other creative marketing tasks. Both of us also love to start our days with a swim down at the local beach before heading to the office in the summer months. It’s so accessible when our office is located only 200 meters from the water, we are so lucky to work and live in such beautiful surroundings.
