The 6 types of energy we carry (and how to protect them)
Not all tiredness is physical. Sometimes we sleep well and still wake up feeling flat.
Or we tick off every to-do, and somehow still feel like we’ve run a marathon.
That’s because we’re not just carrying physical energy. We carry mental, emotional, spiritual, creative, social, and sensory energy too. And they all need care.
Let's breakdown the 6 types of energy:
Mental energy – what your brain is holding (decisions, worries, planning)
Emotional energy – your feelings and the emotional labour of holding space for others
Spiritual energy – your sense of purpose, grounding, and inner peace
Creative energy – your ideas, problem-solving, and inspiration
Sensory energy – how your body responds to noise, light, clutter, screens
Social energy – your connections, conversations, and people time
You’re using these all the time - which means they need replenishing, too.
This week, try asking:
Where am I spending the most energy lately?
Which type feels low, and what could restore it?
What could I gently step away from - even for a moment?
Protecting your energy isn’t selfish. It’s how you stay connected to yourself. It’s how you make space for calm.
