Feelings: Feel lighter, feel clearer.
Time required: 20 to 30 minutes
What you’ll need: A pen, paper, and a candle or safe way to release the page once complete.
ABOUT THE RITUAL
Every season has its own energy - and with it comes the perfect excuse to pause and check in with yourself. No pressure. Just a moment to ask: What have I been carrying...and do I really still need to?
Maybe it’s a habit you’re tired of, a thought that keeps looping in your mind, or a feeling that’s been weighing you down. Sometimes we don’t even realise how much we’re holding onto until we stop and actually name it.
This ritual is a chance to do just that. To get it out of your head and onto paper. And then - to let it go. Tear it up. Bury it. Burn it (safely!). However you choose to release it, know that you’re making space for something new to grow.
You’re not letting go because you’ve failed or done something wrong. You’re letting go because you’re allowed to. Because you’re ready to create space for whatever is next.
INSTRUCTIONS:
-
Find a few quiet minutes, even if it’s just while your coffee or tea is brewing or you’ve finally flopped onto the couch. No need for a perfect set up here - just enough space to hear yourself think.
-
Grab your paper and write it all out. The habit you’re done with; the thought that keeps looping in your mind; the feeling you’ve been carrying that doesn’t feel like yours anymore. No one else will see it - this is just for you.
-
Read back what you wrote. Not to judge it - just to notice it: This is what you’ve been holding. That’s a big deal in itself.
-
Finally, grab your piece of paper and do whatever feels right: tear it up, bury it in the backyard, pop it in the compost, or burn it (safely) if that feels cathartic. The method doesn’t matter - the release does.
