Meet Candice & Matt Bauer - the husband and wife team behind BARE By Bauer.
Candice & Matt not only produce their own skincare, they also recently launched their first range of eco-friendly products, including biodegradable toothbrushes and cotton buds. You may have seen their toothbrushes in our Autumn Box!
Read on to hear from Candice & Matt on what motivates them and what a fulfilled life means to them:
What gets you out of bed in the morning?
Candice: Food! Honestly, I love creating and eating delicious, wholesome, nourishing food.
Matt: Finding new ways and dreaming up new ideas on how our small boutique business can continue to grow and be better in every way, particularly from an environmental standpoint.
How do you make your products?
We hand craft our products in small batches to ensure we infuse each one of them with LOVE and use only the best natural, chemical free, preservative free, non-GMO, eco-friendly ingredients. We source our toothbrushes and cotton buds from sustainable & cruelty free sources.
What is your favourite way to enjoy your product/s?
I like to incorporate some of my favourite products into my weekly self-care routine which is; enjoying a BARE Bohemia Bath Tea with our soon to be released hair mask on and our Green Gypsy Face Mask.
What is an interesting way using your products that not many people would know about?
Mix our Face Masks with a carrier oil, like jojoba or almond oil, or coconut milk for an extra boost of skin loving goodness.
Our Rose Water Facial Spray can not only be used as a refreshing and toning facial spray but also as a fragrant body spritzer.
Our Bohemia Bath Tea, once used, can be put out on the line to dry (with remaining contents inside) in the provided cotton pouch, and then placed in a draw or small space to keep socks and jocks smelling fresh.
What have been the biggest trials so far in starting and running your company?
Trying to source quality ingredients that align with our values. Also, initially the fear that our products wouldn’t be as good as some of the mainstream natural product companies – this fear soon dissipated after experiencing great results ourselves and receiving wonderful feedback on how some of our products have literally changed people’s lives. Without encountering this fear, I don’t believe that BARE by Bauer would be what it is today it has given us ongoing determination and passion to strive for the best and create products that continue to help others.
What is your favourite way of winding down and taking time out?
Candice – Doing some form of exercise, eating delicious food and reading my book with a cup of tea at the end of the day.
Matt – Doing gym and reading a book.
Here at Retreat Yourself, we LOVE dreaming BIG – what is your vision for your company?
To provide a more holistic health experience from educating people on low tox living and functional nutrition, and continue to deliver quality skin and body care products. Education is a strong passion here at BARE and we would love to deliver more education to people so that they feel empowered to make healthier choices.
For anyone out there wanting to start their own business, what would your biggest piece of advice be?
As cliché as it is, JUST DO IT. As long as you truly believe in what you are doing and you have some good support (this can be just one person or a whole tribe of people) you can achieve anything. Mistakes will be made along the way and there will be times that you say “oops I shouldn’t have done that” or “I wish we did this instead”, but it is all part of the learning journey. Establish your core values early and stick to them (Don’t lose sight of them – Don’t let mainstream media, money or negativity lead you astray). One of the most common questions we ask ourselves when creating a product is, “would I buy this and would I consider this as offering value to my life?”. If the answer is yes, then we go for it.
And lastly, what does a fulfilled life look like to you?
Making a difference in people’s lives for the better and living a life full of love, happiness, great health for us and Mother Earth. Ultimately, living our truth with the freedom to do so.
