Nourish this winter, ease into what your body's craving

Winter has a way of asking for different things than the rest of the year, and there's an actual reason for that. Your body works harder to stay warm when it's cold, which means it genuinely needs more fuel to keep up.

Shorter days mean less sunlight, which affects your mood and appetite too. Warm, hearty food can lift that in a very real, physical way, not just a psychological one. And with the cold weather, your immune system is quietly asking for a bit more backup than usual.

So when you're craving something warm, rich, and slow-cooked instead of something raw and cold, it's your body responding sensibly to less light, more cold, and a genuine increase in what it needs to get through the day.

This season, we're talking about easing into what your body is actually asking for, and trusting that it knows what it's doing. Sometimes that just means pausing for a second and asking yourself what would actually warm you up right now, or what would satiate you.

That might look like:

Warmth, in whatever form that takes.
A slow-cooked meal instead of a salad. Soup you let simmer for an hour. A hot drink you actually sit down for instead of drinking on the go. Your body wants to feel warm from the inside, not just from a jumper.

Richness, without the second-guessing.
Butter in the mash. The good olive oil. A meal that actually fills you up instead of leaving you looking for something else twenty minutes later. Winter food is meant to be a bit more indulgent, and that's exactly what your body's asking for right now.

A little extra support for your immune system.
Ginger, garlic, ginger tea, extra vegetables in the soup, more sleep than you think you need. Your body's already working harder this time of year just to keep you warm, these small additions just help it along.

This winter, let food be warm, rich, and immune-supportive. Your body's been asking for exactly that.

With love, Kate and the Retreat Yourself team.
