Living a mindful life requires intention, but don’t allow that to discourage you: intention can be simple. It doesn’t have to be complicated.
A mindful life starts with a promise. We set the intention to slow down, pause, and be present — to care for ourselves so we can show up for our loved ones. We set the intention to fill our lives with the good and the peaceful. It’s an uncomplicated promise, but an all-encompassing one.
So, we’ve consciously and mindfully set our intention to capture the good… now, the day-to-day comes down to the details. The question becomes: how do we bring love and compassion into our everyday routine?
The answer, too, is simple. We care for ourselves through built-in, non-negotiable daily rituals.
A ritual goes beyond a habit. While a habit is an action we undertake unconsciously, a ritual is a step-by-step process repeated purposely with awareness. Instead of a routine, rituals are a conscious dedication to ourselves, each and every day. Rituals are born from our why. Rituals make us who we are.
When a habit or routine becomes a ritual, it will no longer be omitted from your day. Taking time out of your schedule to care for yourself is not something to be desired or sought after… it simply is. It’s an un-skippable essential.
Your personal rituals will be as unique and individual as you are. It could be a daily walk first thing in the morning, or later as the sun sets. It might be a slow-paced skincare session without interruptions, or a morning cup of hot coffee. It may be a moment of meditation within a busy day — a deep breath amongst the rush. It could be as simple as lighting a candle, using a luxurious hair mask or taking a cloud-like bubble bath. The most important part of your ritual is that it makes you feel good. It makes you happy. It brings you peace.
A ritual is a connection with yourself; a moment dedicated to nothing but unwinding. Rituals are an anchor that make us feel grounded. Rituals are meaningful. Rituals are intentional.
