“One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well” – Virginia Woolf
After a particularly craptacular day at work I realized something important:
Everything will be OK if you just come home and cook yourself a nice curry :)
So today I would like to chat to you about my love of food, which can be directly accredited to my Nan.
My mother is a self-confessed shit cook (grey beans and rubber chicken anyone?!) My Nan always inspired me with her ability to head into the kitchen, potter around and an hour later emerge with a 5 star meal of entree, main and not to forget her desserts! She would always amaze me by taking your usual kitchen staple foods and turn it into something gourmet.
Oh my lord, I love food!
I love how it is energy, nourishment and comfort for the body all at the same time. People often ask me “how do you always stay so skinny?”. Like everybody I go through ups and downs in life and sure, I plump out a little sometimes, but my secret is…. I just listen to my body. I don’t deprive myself of anything, if I'm craving something, I’ll find the best, most nutrient dense and tasty version and have that. For me comfort eating does not mean gorging on chocolate or lollies, for me comfort eating means eating as healthfully as possible only that which serves my mind, body and spirit.
On these cool Autumn evenings, I am craving curry served with quinoa….. And what delicious meal is complete without dessert?! Hello organic dark chocolate!
Gorgeous nutrient dense food is my gift to myself. I make cooking myself beautiful food a top priority. I try to buy as much organic as possible which does cost a little bit more, but again this is my gift to myself.
I know everyone is busy, but it is so important to say to yourself, “Hey, I think you are pretty awesome and you are worth spending the time and effort required to make at least one amazeballs nutrient dense meal per day!”
Everyone can manage at least 1 home cooked/ prepared awesome meal per day!
It's time to place real value on yourself, your body and what you put in it.
How can you expect to look a million dollars if you buy from the bargain section?
So I put it to you my fair friends, how can you switch your usual go-to comfort food or “light n easy” meal for something made by you, it doesn’t have to be “plated up” all schmancy pants like on a TV cooking show, just something simple that you took the time to make yourself.
I promise food you make yourself always tastes that little bit more yummo :)
