The Skin Kitchen. A great name for a brand, don’t you think?
But it’s only when you smell their Coconut Body oil (COOKIES!) or their Pineapple Lip Scrub (PINEAPPLE ICEY POLES!) that you realise exactly how The Skin Kitchen got it’s name.
The products actually do smell like your favourite sweet treats from the kitchen – this is no word of an exaggeration!
And, considering they are all natural, you could probably actually get away with eating them. But we don’t recommend it..
We talk to Skin Kitchen co-founder Nicole Lewandowski about The Skin Kitchen journey, and her favourite product from their range.
Tell us a bit about the people behind your company
We are a small but passionate and committed team that work together towards the same values and goals.
What inspired you to start your company and when did you start it?
I have always been fond of coffee scrubs and with having sensitive skin it can be a little rough some days, especially when trying to get rid of my fake tan, which I could not live without. By experimenting with some other ingredients, we have now come up with several different delicious flavours that are a lot gentler on the skin for people that don’t necessarily want to use a coffee based scrub. The Skin Kitchen started a little over 3 years ago now.
What would an ‘average day in the life of’ look like for you?
My average day consists of emails, sorting orders and making sure everything runs smoothly within the company.
What gets you out of bed in the morning?
Coffee! Knowing that I get to work in my own business every day, that I have created is something very special.
What is your favourite product in your range?
Our watermelon facial mask is one of my favourites, it leaves my skin feeling so soft and hydrated and I love the smell of watermelon. This is our newest product and perfect for summer!
What is your favourite way to enjoy your product/s?
Busy life - I love applying the watermelon mask and forgetting about it while I get ready for my day.
What experiences lead to the values you have instilled in your company?
Having previous business experience surely makes it a lot easier to run a company. I think it is so important getting as much knowledge as you can.
What is your favourite way of winding down and taking time out?
After a long day I love having a cup of peppermint tea and having cuddles with my cat.
Here at Retreat Yourself, we LOVE dreaming BIG - what is your vision for your company?
Keeping skincare delicious and simple is a huge aspect of The Skin Kitchen. We are always looking at expanding the range with some new and exciting products. We’d like to develop more specific face products i.e. facial creams and cleansers.
For anyone out there wanting to start their own business, what would your biggest piece of advice be?
These days you see new brands popping up as quickly as weeds in your garden. It is a competitive world and you must be committed and passionate. Get as much experience and knowledge as you can before you start.
And lastly, what does a fulfilled life look like to you?
Being happy and healthy are the most important. I am however very passionate about The Skin Kitchen and overall, I am grateful at where I am at this point in my life.
