Creating a self-care toolkit

Creating a self-care toolkit

Self-care doesn’t always come easy.

Some days feel extra difficult to trudge through. Whether facing minor annoyances or life-changing circumstances, some moments throw our baseline emotions out of balance, making us feel out of touch with our usual lightness and joy.

Perhaps it’s an uncomfortable moment at work that sticks with you longer, replaying in your mind like a repeat episode. Maybe your upcoming responsibilities feel heavy and stressful, causing you to sink beneath the blankets for an extra ten or fifteen, skipping your essential morning routine. Maybe it’s one of those weeks where you sigh seeing it’s only Wednesday and feel frustrated at the thought of cooking dinner once again.

In these moments of feeling ‘off’, nourishing yourself is not easy to achieve. Self-care can be one of the first things to slip when we feel less than our best.

But we can honour ourselves by preparing for these moments in advance.

When it feels tough to show yourself love, a self-care basket can become your in-case-of-emergency toolkit, full of simple but nourishing rituals to reach for when life feels overwhelming — reminding you of your commitment to self-care.

What’s inside ours?

  • Something warm. Whether plush new socks, a blanket or a cosy accessory, physical warmth can do wonders for the soul.
  • Something delicious. An intention bite of something to lift your spirits can work magic. We love better-for-you treats and sustainable bites.
  • Something fancy. A luxe face oil or that hair mask you’ve been holding onto? Now is the time to treat yourself.
  • Something that smells good. Cosy candles, home fragrance or even deliciously formulated bath soaps can really soothe the senses.
  • Something for reflection. Sometimes the best way to handle our feelings is to face them. Stock a journal or reflective tool to guide you through low energy, low motivation moments.

Today is International Self Care Day, making it the perfect day to stock your self-care toolkit with rituals you know will lift you up.
