Your 3-step-routine for summer ready feet

Your 3-step-routine for summer ready feet

**In conjunction with special guests, Natures Commonscents*

While it is quite common to fill our vanity cupboards with a variety of creams, serums and lotions to help keep our faces and bodies looking hydrated, glowing and ultimately flawless, it is quite rare to show the same amount of love to our feet.

Dry, cracked, or tired feet can occur when we neglect this vital part of our body - they are one of the hardest working parts of our bodies after all!

Here we share a simple 3-step treatment to have your feet feeling soft, smooth and replenished, that can easily be done at home.

1 ~ Soak them

Feet have fewer oil glands than the rest of the body, so soaking them to soften and loosen dry skin is hugely beneficial and will provide benefits that can’t be gained in a quick 5 minute shower.

Simply add some warm water in a large bowl, and pop your feet in for 10 minutes. Some really beneficial additions to the water include:

  • Epsom salts can help to exfoliate as well as soothe sore feet
  • Some fresh lemon or lime can help to detoxify your feet
  • Peppermint or lavender will create a beautiful aroma, and will also help to relax you before bed

2 ~ Scrub them

After soaking is the best time to exfoliate - when all the dry skin has softened. Doing this will assist in removing dry skin, and also help get the blood flowing.

A loofah or something equally as abrasive is great to use here, but you could also use a coarse salt scrub.

Exfoliate the whole foot, paying extra special attention to your heels.

3 ~ Massage and moisturise them (and repeat daily!)

Lastly, to replenish the moisture, make your skin look and feel soft, and to prevent your feet drying out again, apply a naturally replenishing foot balm enriched with humectants.

Applying a foot balm daily can help to prevent the skin on your feet from getting dry and rough, and can assist in the avoidance of more extreme issues like cuts, blisters and calluses when feet are exposed to the elements. The cooling sensation from a foot balm can also help to offset the discomfort of tired feet and the moisturising properties can assist in repairing dry or damaged cuticles for optimal nail health.

The best solution is to use a product that contains natural or naturally-derived ingredients. Some key ingredients to look for in a foot balm are:

  • Coconut oil – filled with antioxidants and fatty acids to help hydrate and moisturise feet, as well as helping to prevent foot fungus
  • Peppermint oil – to help refresh any odor that may occur when feet are trapped inside footwear, argan oil – to help soften and nourish skin
  • Lavender oil – to help you to relax and calm nerves after a tiring day
  • Menthol – for an anti-inflammatory and cooling sensation.

And while it is important to look out for quality ingredients, it’s just as important to consider the ingredients that you don’t want in your Foot Balm. Ingredients to avoid include sulphates, silicones and parabens, and other harsh ingredients that can further irritate the skin.

Natures Commonscents’ Goats Milk & Peppermint Oil Soothing Foot Balm is infused with natural peppermint oil, lavender oil & menthol, and importantly, don’t include unnecessary ingredients such as parabens and artificial fragrance. The perfect remedy to soothe and moisturise dry, cracked feet, daily.
