Five fun activities to see you through a cold August

Five fun activities to see you through a cold August

Sure, winter is cold, it might rain some days and be windy the next. But there’s no need to let the cold get you down! There are so many different ways you can lean into this winter season and embrace it for what it is, a wonderful chance to unwind, rest, hibernate and replenish yourself.

To give you some inspiration, here are our top five fave winter activities...

Rug up and watch the sun rise.
Yes, it might be cold outside, but that’s half the fun. During winter we are blessed with beautiful sunrises that happen at 7 o’clock, which means we don’t have to get up at the crack of dawn to experience the magic! So, make a morning of it. Rug up in every warm thing you own, make your favourite steamy drink and pop it in a thermos and then head out to watch the beauty of the day unfold.

Create an at-home movie theatre.
Movie nights are the best! Gather all your cushions and blankets, set up a cosy nook, or even a pillow fort and then play an old classic! Start with homemade popcorn and pop your favourite drink into a big smoothie cup (for the ultimate cinema vibes) then half way through, break out a Go Natural Gut Goodness Cookie for a sweet treat to round out the experience...no guilt necessary!

Learn a new skill.
There’s no doubt that we spend more time at home in winter, so instead of hitting play on streaming services every night, use your hands and learn a new skill. Maybe you’ve always wondered about macrame, or knitting (very timely - as everyone could do with a handmade beanie). Have you always wanted to master the art of sourdough, or perhaps chess? Often learning a new skill takes a lot of concentration at the start - but soon you’ll be able to switch your favourite tv show back on in the background. It’s a win-win! For bonus points, start using your new skill to make presents for upcoming birthdays or to prep for the holiday season. Everyone loves a handmade gift!

Hold a bake off.
Winter is for baking. As soon as the temperature drops, you’ll catch us daydreaming about cakes, slices, muffins and cinnamon scrolls. So, why not have a little fun with it. Gather your household or invite your friends over and hold a little bake off. Either get everyone to bring their own creations to share, or squish up in the kitchen and get baking together. Sprinkle a little My Kitchen Rules on the day and score each other on taste, presentation and experience!

Re-read a book series you loved growing up.
Sometimes, when it’s sub 10 degrees and pouring outside, you just want to curl back up in bed and read a good book. This winter, pull out your old favourite series from when you were younger and start from the very start. Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, Twilight, Lord of the Rings or The Chronicles of Narnia. You’ll be comforted by the old friends you found in the characters when you were younger, you might even be surprised by how much you forgot and by the little plot twists that went right over your head the first time you read them.
