At Retreat Yourself we love discovering multi use products like the Babe Juicy Wash which featured in our sold out Summer Box.
When used as a soap this wash is perfect for protecting a fresh mani and it's just as luxurious as a wash in the shower - but what we love most is that by adding a few pumps of this wash under running bath water, you have the ultimate soak with rich bubbles that wont dry out your skin!
So when Babe founder Kim Peirce said she wanted to share her essential oils tips with us, we were so excited because not only does she know a lot about this topic, but her tricks to using them are fantastic.
Let's read on together, as Kim teaches us about Babe's 5 Essential Oils to Help Life Your Mood...
They say life is about the journey, but when that journey becomes stormy…how do we weather the terrain? In my last article for RY mag, I shared my tips on how to re-boot our mind and body to increase productivity so we can actually get shit done. When things aren’t going to plan though, feeling like we’re staying on track while juggling all the typical balls of life isn’t something that comes naturally to most of us.
So today – in an ode to the normality of feeling the pressure - especially as the year comes speeding to an end, I’m sharing a super quick crash course on putting together a little remedy kit of 5 essential oils that can help lift your mood when the pressure is starting to build.
WARNING: Seek advice from your doctor if you have questions or concerns regarding the use of essential oils during pregnancy.
1. Lime essential oil
Lime essential oil has a sweet and tart aroma and is often described as cheerful and happy! On smelling it you might find yourself salivating...I know we do here when working with lime oil on the manufacturing line! Lime essential oil is uplifting, and can be incorporated into blends that work as an antidepressant. Lime is also energising, so if you’re feeling flat, adding this oil to your blends can help pep you back up.
#BABEHACK – during your morning shower, add two drops of lime essential oil to the shower base and enjoy the energizing steam first thing in the morning to kick your day off with a bang.
2. Lavender essential oil
With its sweet and herbaceous aroma, lavender essential oil is typically understood to be calming. But the beauty of lavender essential oil for me, is in its yin and yang properties - as it is also known for being stimulating and uplifting when used in slightly higher dosages! #whowouldhavethought! Lavender is often used in aromatherapy to help combat depression and anxiety.
#BABEHACK – next time you’re visiting Grandma, ask if she has any lavender growing in her garden. If you’re in luck, cut a whack of 15cm stems and tie together at the base with some twine, ribbon, or a rubber band and hang upside-down in your bedroom window, or simply place by your bed. When the stems dry out, rub them between your hands, twisting until the petals and leaves dislodge from the stems and collect on a hankie. Scoop up the ends of the hankie to encase the dried lavender into a ball shape, and secure with a ribbon. Place near your pillow in your bed.
3. Orange essential oil
Sweet, luxurious and tangy, orange essential oil is often used in aromatherapy to uplift the mood and reduce anxiety.
#BABEHACK – add two drops of orange, lime and rosemary essential oil to a cotton face pad in the morning before leaving for the office and seal inside a sandwich bag. After lunch, if you can feel the 2 o’clock slump coming on, pull out the pad and wipe around your desk and chair. Make sure to pop the cotton pad back in the bag and seal. You can re-use tomorrow simply by pulling it out and placing on your desk.
4. Peppermint essential oil
Used in aromatherapy as an analgesic to assist with injury and pain, to help ease breathing difficulties, as an antiseptic for cuts – the list goes on, the beautiful peppermint essential oil is also known to stimulate and help you break out of lethargy. This is the perfect little remedy oil to lean on when feeling really overwhelmed to the point of being stuck or a feeling of when the breaks have been put on.
#BABEHACK – add 2 drops of peppermint, 1 drop of lavender & 2 drops of rosemary essential oil to your oil burner mid-morning if you’re feeling a bit blue or you can’t quite get the motivation to finish the task at hand.
5. Rosemary essential oil
Light, herbaceous, rosemary. Sweet in name and heaven in nature! Known to help calm, boost our mood, and help combat negativity, Rosemary in different dosages can also stimulate. Rosemary simply is a saint.
#BABEHACK – enjoy a good vibes soak in the tub using a teaspoon of coconut or olive oil from the pantry which will act as a carrier oil. Add 3 drops of rosemary, 1 drop of orange and 2 drops of lavender. Soak and reflect on all the things you have gratitude for today.
