Essential Oils and Our Emotions

Essential Oils and Our Emotions

I'm sure that you've all heard about how versatile essential oils are and that we can use them for a huge range of things from making cleaning products to helping us to fall asleep. But what Tanya Ambrosini, the founder of Botanist Aromatherapy, finds really exciting is how incredible they are for supporting our emotions.

Essential oils are extremely quick and effective at reaching our limbic system, the part of our brain that controls our emotions, memories and smell.

It also houses our amygdala - think fight or flight.

Simply by inhaling certain oils we can release neurotransmitters such as serotonin and endorphins.

Emotions affect every system and organ in our bodies so to achieve more optimal health it's important that we take time to process and release our emotions.

Tanya's favourite way to do this is by using pure, well sourced essential oils.

"I'm a fan of quick results and discovering that I could quickly change the direction of my day was a welcome revelation," she said.

If you can use oils to change the direction of your day and you do that every day, it's not a stretch of the imagination to say that you could expect to change the direction of your life.

Tiny bottles of motivation, relaxation, euphoria, self esteem, courage, presence and manifestation.

Here are some powerful ways to incorporate essential oils into your daily life:

Study, work or exercise - for productivity, focus, motivation and memory recall you can use oils such as rosemary, lemongrass and black pepper.

Stress reduction and calming the nervous system - citrus oils and lavender work wonders. A Mie University (Japan) study found that citrus fragrances induced relaxation and reduced depression.

Spiritual connection (God, Buddha, Source, Gaia or something higher than yourself) - many people find great solace in taking time to practice stillness, meditation or prayer, and oils such as frankincense, sandalwood, spruce and ylang ylang can be very helpful for grounding your energy and stimulating your pineal gland.

Self Love routines - oils of geranium, frankincense and bergamot (particularly when used as a combination) can have uplifting effects and can show an increase in self esteem when used as part of a regular positive routine (such as affirmations).

Romantic connection - rose and jasmine absolutes have been known for eons to contain aphrodisiac qualities. So uplifting, feminine and intoxicating, they are ideal for wearing as a perfume.
